Man shot and killed in Tongaat tavern brawl

This was the second murder at Gwala Farm in the last 2 weeks.

An argument outside a tavern in Gwala’s Farm, Tongaat, resulted in the cold-blooded murder of a 35-year-old man last week.

The man was shot and killed on Friday night, just over a week after a security manager, Poobalan “June” Govender, who worked for Eagle Eye Protection Services, was shot and killed in the same area.

According to provincial Saps spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the man was killed after an argument with two men.

“He sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body and was declared dead at the scene,” said Gwala.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson, Prem Balram, said the alleged killers fled in a white VW Polo. Poobalan “June” Govender was attacked and shot in his car by three unknown gunmen.

They robbed him of his firearm, 17 rounds of ammunition as well as cash before fleeing on foot.
