Hunt continues after Zinkwazi drowning

Emergency rescue services continue the search after a Zinkwazi man disappeared on Sunday.

The search for a missing man presumed to have drowned at Zinkwazi Beach resumed early this morning. A team including Netcare911 paramedics, the KwaDukuza fire and emergency rescue services, police and the specialised rescue unit (SRU) have been searching for the 23-year-old man since he went missing yesterday near Black Rock. Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the man got into difficulty around 3.30pm. “Reports from fisherman are that the man was trying to stay afloat behind the rocks. They called for help but he disappeared underwater.” According to the SRU the man apparently consumed alcohol before he and a friend went swimming. “Due to failing light the search was halted around 6pm last night and it continued this morning. The national sea rescue institute are on standby.” An inquest docket has been opened.
