A full field of 72 golfers took to the fairways and greens at Simbithi Country Club on August 27 for the annual Bloom Special Needs School fundraiser golf day.
With an astronomical amount of sought after prizes to play for and a very special gala dinner function afterwards, golfers and their families had a lot to look forward to.
Beauty surrounded the golfers on the short but alluring 18 hole par 60 golf course. Most of the teeboxes were sponsored and Bloom had sweet treats and a fun game waiting for players at the short but tricky par three 17th, that was short enough to pitch from the tee box onto a small island green.
Founders of the school, Sean and Nicola Stirton and Eric and Carolyn Hardy were astonished by the generosity that flowed out of the event.
The biggest contributor to the fundraising was the children’s art auction where two paintings reached R50 000 and R75 000 respectively, bringing the total amount raised to about R200 000.
Thanks to people’s open hearts and wallets, a significant portion of the day-to-day running of the school has been covered for the next year. For this Nicola gave all the glory to God.
The fouball of Andrew and Dave Carr, Brian Merchant and Andrew Aitken carded the lowest score on the day and grabbed first place.
The Bloom Special Needs School is situated in Salt Rock and caters for the needs of children with downs syndrome, autism, a low IQ and other unspecified learning difficulties.
