Two die in car crash

Six people were involved in a car crash near Maphumulo last night.

Two people died and four were injured after a light delivery vehicle crashed last night on the R74 link road to Maphumulo.

Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and a local private ambulance found the vehicle about 50 metres down an embankment.

According to KZN EMS spokesperson, Robert Mckenzie, several of the patients had been ejected from the vehicle when it rolled.

The fire department set up a lighting system to help the paramedics search for the passengers between rocks and bushes, down the dark embankment.

For two of the passengers, a man and a woman both aged about 30, help came too late.

Four further passengers were treated, three of them were in serious condition.

The patients were transported to hospital for further medical care.

The cause of the crash is not known at this stage and will be investigated by the police.
