Rules for picking strawberries

If you are going to the Ballito Strawberry Festival, remember the rules for picking strawberries.

With the first Ballito Strawberry Festival happening on Saturday at Cappeny Estate, here are a few rules to remember when picking strawberries:

– Wear comfortable, closed, shoes (if it rains wear gumboots or appropriate footwear).

– Remember to wear a hat and apply sunscreen, especially if it is a sunny day.

– Technique is everything. You will be shown the correct picking technique, which you must use in order to not damage the plants.

– No pets are allowed.

– Pick strawberries only in the designated picking areas.

– Resist the urge to stuff your pockets with strawberries, using only the containers provided.

– Only pluck strawberries that are red and ripe.

– Children under 10 must by under adult supervision at all times.

– Picking slots will be 15-20 minutes long with a certain number of people permitted at a time.

– Picking monitors will be on hand to assist where necessary.

– Picking is on first-come first-serve basis.

If you have not got your tickets for the first ever Ballito Strawberry Festival yet, buy them at Computicket. Cappeny Estate is situated on the Esenembe Road outside Ballito.
