The Word of the Year is not a word!
Oxford Dictionaries chose a pictograph as their word of the year.
Oxford Dictionaries previously announced some interesting word of the year winners like vape in 2014, selfie in 2013 and GIF in 2012, but this year an emoji was the chosen one.
That’s right, it’s not a word, in fact it’s a pictograph.
The emoji, face with tears of joy or a crying laughing face, was the most used emoji in 2015 and its use nearly tripled this year compared to 2014.
According to Oxford, this emoji best reflected the mood, ethos and preoccupations of 2015.
Also, while emojis was initially only used by teens, it seems everyone now uses emoji’s to express what they are saying or feeling or even thinking.
