A boy, believed to be 16-years-old, was killed at his home in Maphumulo after being struck by lightning on Tuesday afternoon.
KZN Emergency Medical Services said 16 other people were hurt.
Reports from the scene indicate that the group were watching TV in their rondavel when the lightning struck.
“Paramedics treated sixteen patients of whom five were in a serious condition while the others had sustained relatively minor injuries,” said spokesperson Robert McKenzie.
