People were still wiping the sleep from their eyes, driving to work or doing the school run, when an army of people dressed in bright green shirts were already busy tidying up the streets of Ballito on Monday morning, November 9.
The Ballito UIP had officially launched their eagerly anticipated urban assault on decay in Ballito.
Precinct manager, Thierry Laclezio, said in the first week they worked on the stretch of road from the N2/P445 intersection down to the BP garage on Ballito Drive and down the M4 to Ashton College.
“On Wednesday, November 18 we started working further down Ballito Drive, Compensation Road and the promenade, where we will spend the next two to three weeks.”
The UIP team is aiming to sort out the focal areas first, before moving on to the more “out of sight” parts of the CBD.
He said the security services started on Monday, November 16 on the promenade, where there are a few problems to sort out, and will expand to the central business district in the near future.
“In the first three days alone we removed five tons of sand and 300 bags of litter from the town’s gutters and walkways.”
