Junction Mall expansion almost halfway

Excitement is mounting as the Junction Mall grows bigger with each passing day.

Set for completion in March 2017, construction of the 70 000 square metre regional mall is dead on schedule.

Developers Flanagan and Gerard spokesman, Jason Nel, said the parking deck was ahead of schedule and may be completed in the first quarter of 2016.

He said bulk earthworks (large scale removal, adding and shifting of soil) and lateral support was complete and contractors, Jodan and Franki were already off site.

“WBHO is progressing nicely with the structure and level one service level is nearly complete while portions of the level six slab have already been cast,” said Nel.

He said the plan was to have most of the level four slab, including the Game floor slab, completed by builders’ break this year.

“With the opening little more than a year away, WBHO is in a good position to focus on the finishes in what will be a very busy and exciting 2016,” said Nel.

Flanagan and Gerard executive director, Patrick Flanagan said the mall would not put any additional pressure on Ballito’s water and electricity infrastructure because the mall will have its own reservoir and mini substation and the developers have committed to upgrading the Ballito substation behind the Fish Factory in the CBD.

He said the substation upgrade will, once complete, not only provide power to the mall but also an extra five MVA to feed into the KwaDukuza power grid. One MVA is enough to power 10 000 square metres of commercial development.
