An 18-year-old boy from Tongaat drowned while bathing at a non-swimming beach in Ballito at 11am on Tuesday, November 24.
The teen and two of his friends went swimming at Surfers Lane, a non-swimming beach where there is not lifeguard station.
He was sucked into the sea by Ballito’s notoriously strong rip current and disappeared while his friends safely made it back to shore.
“KDM lifeguards launched two jetskis and a total of eight lifeguards along with SAPS search and rescue have done an extensive search but they could not find the man’s body,” said Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue.
