Onwards and upwards for Crawford matrics

Fantastic results scored by the class of 2015.

Nerves, excitement and a healthy dose of celebration dominated the atmosphere at Crawford North Coast College last Wednesday, January 6 as matrics and their parents gathered at the school for the formal matric handover.

As the cheery hum of energetic chit-chat filled the room, the announcement finally came that the results were in and the room fell instantly silent with anticipation.

The projector screen turned on and the names of the school’s top ten achievers and their final averages appeared one by one – each met with loud cheers and rounds of applause from their peers as Crawford principal Andre Loots called out each name.

The top ten achievers averaged scores no lower than 84.62%, while the school’s top three pupils – Demishka Valaitham, Kelly Simkiss and Kenyon Padayachee made waves by managing to clinch an impressive nine ‘A’ grades across all of their subjects.

Third place pupil Demishka Valaitham scored an average of 92.38%, while second place Kelly Simkiss averaged 92.54%. They were not too far behind the school’s top achiever, Kenyon Padayachee, who averaged an incredible 93.23%.

Crawford’s matrics performed particularly well in three subjects including engineering graphics and design (EGD), in which 11 pupils out of 16 were awarded distinctions. In drama, nine pupils out of 19 achieved ‘A’ grades, while in information technology (IT) six matrics out of 12 also finished with ‘A’ grades.

Loots said the school performed remarkably well in this year’s results and that he is proud of the pupils’ achievements.

“I am very excited, the results this year reflect the hard work the pupils have put into their studies and this, together with the school’s great quality of teachers and support from the parent body, has produced these amazing results,” said Loots.

He added that 91% of Crawford’s matrics secured a bachelor degree pass, which means their grades are high enough for acceptance into university.

The day marked the end of years of hard work for the young scholars and the beginning of a new challenge for them, either at university or in the world of work.

The bustling room was filled with proud parents smiling broadly as they took part in their children’s big day, with Valaitham’s mother, Ravendree expressing her happiness with her daughter’s exceptional achievements.

“I am so very proud of her – she really has made us extremely proud and we wish her nothing but the best as she takes on her future,” said Ravendree Valaitham.
