‘Othello’ marks Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary

Shakespeare's tragic play, Othello comes to life at Think Theatre’s acclaimed schools' production at the Playhouse drama stage.

Think Theatre’s critically acclaimed schools production of William Shakespeare’s great stage tragedy Othello returns as a salute to  the 400th anniversary of The Bard, who died on 23 April 1616.

Othello is on at the Playhouse Drama stage in Durban from 15 February to 18 March at 9am and 12pm (Mondays to Fridays).

An evening performance for the public will be given at The Playhouse at 7pm on 1 March.

Presented in association with the Playhouse Company, Othello is directed by multi-award-winning actor and director Clare Mortimer, also respected for her extensive expertise as a writer and English teacher.

A vital learning aid facility for secondary school learners studying Shakespeare’s stage tragedy as a set work,  the play continues to hold today’s audiences in its grip as its core themes of love, envy and betrayal remain relevant to the human condition.

Durban Theatre Award winner Nhlakanipho Manqele reprises his interpretation of the play’s tragic title role with Cara Roberts returning as his ill-fated young wife, Desdemona; and Clinton Small plays the villainous Iago.

Booking is through Doreen Stanley on 033-3434884 or 084 556 0668 or email doreen@thinktheatre.co.za.
