Jealous ex is a woman abuser – victim

Domestic violence victim complained of years of abuse.

The 34-year-old jealous ex-boyfriend, who smashed his Toyota 86 sports car into his ex’s Mini Cooper on Saturday night, January 30 reportedly used to beat her up during their 11-year relationship and threatened to kill her.

“He used to beat me and keep me locked up in the house until I had healed,” said the woman who asked not to be named. We’ll call her Jane.

After years of physical abuse, and a number of failed attempts at leaving, Jane finally managed to escape the abusive relationship six months ago and move into her own place at Sun and Surf in Ballito.

“I found out he was cheating on me and that made it easier to leave.”

Jane and her ex-boyfriend have not been on speaking terms for the last month and a half but she discovered he had allegedly been showing up at her friends’ houses asking about her whereabouts.

“On Saturday he followed her around town in his car.

“I got scared and called the new man in my life, who I have only been seeing for three weeks, who suggested we go out that night and I should stay over at his place.”

The couple and another friend went out at 7.30pm and returned to Jane’s house at 11.30pm to pack her overnight bag.

In the meantime, the ex-boyfriend allegedly broke into Jane’s house, slashed her lounge suite and pillows with a knife, smashed her TV screen and was waiting for her in the house.

“As I opened the front door, he came out of the cupboard, knife in hand and threatened to kill me. He said if he cannot have me, nobody can and he was going to kill me.”

So Jane, her new boyfriend and his mate ran in different directions, with the ex-boyfriend in tow, reportedly still carrying the knife.

Jane jumped in her car and drove towards the gate where she instructed the guard to close the gate behind her, but before she could get away, the ex-boyfriend rammed his car into hers.

She quickly got out of her car and started running down Simbithi Drive with the ex-boyfriend on her heels.

A man stopped to help Jane but left her there when the ex-boyfriend threatened to kill him.

“He said, ‘I will kill you if that b**ch gets into your car.'”

Jane eventually managed to get a lift to the BP garage from where she called the police.

The ex-boyfriend was arrested and a case of malicious damage to property was opened.

He appeared in the Umhlali Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and was denied bail.
