Showing in Melbourne
Wendy's Zululand inspired work feature landscapes, livestock, Zulu huts, figure studies, places she has visited and her favourite, people.
When Australian art gallery owner, Megan Dicks discovered Wendy Ferguson’s art on a recent trip to KZN, she knew she had stumbled upon something special that she had to have in her Melbourne based gallery.
Dicks acted fast and the rest, as they say, is history. The artist from Sheffield Beach’s work went on display in the Otomys gallery in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday night, February 23.
“I am excited about having some paintings over in Melbourne,” said the laid-back artist.
Inspired by spending 36 years of her life in Eshowe, immersed in the rich, colourful cultural heritage of Zululand, Wendy’s paintings feature landscapes, livestock, Zulu huts, figure studies, places she has visited and her favourite, people.
“My work goes through phases and lately I have been moving into abstract art, using mixed media that ranges from hand knotted wall hangings to weaving, macramé, sculpture, pieces of fabric and other materials that create texture.”
A lady of many talents, this former boutique and fabric shop owner is also an accomplished ceramic artist and sculptor and married a former motor garage owner turned sculptor of abstract art.
Together, Wendy and Stan Ferguson are an artistic power couple to be reckoned with whose work has been on display in a number of galleries and exhibitions across our rainbow nation.
“There is no profound deeper meaning to our work; our work is just an expression of what we feel,” said Wendy.
The couple joins forces with fellow artists three to four times a year to exhibit their work at shows, mostly in Zululand but Wendy’s work also hangs in private galleries in Mauritius, Brazil, Uganda, France and Canada.
