Beware bogus pest control men

Warrant officer Manisha Mari said it is alleged that men claiming to be from a Pest Control company in Phoenix are knocking on doors.

Tongaat SAPS are reminding residents that they have the right to refuse suspicious people entry to their properties, refuse a service offered and to check people’s credentials.

The police are investigating two cases of theft in the Ficus Road area, Chelmsford Heights, that could possibly have been prevented.

Warrant officer Manisha Mari said it is alleged that men claiming to be from a Pest Control company in Phoenix are knocking on doors.

“They tell residents that they can get a free pest eradication service as “it’s free” for the first time. They also asked the residents to wait outside so that the chemicals would not affect them,” said Mari.

“Luckily one resident went into her house and noticed that one of the guys was standing in front of her cupboard and her purse was on the bed.

“She screamed which alerted the next-door neighbour and at the same time the thieves all fled.”

Tongaat SAPS have asked residents to be on the look out for these men and to contact the police if they are spotted.

It’s believed the thieves are targeting the elderly.
