One killed in midnight N2 accident, Umhlali
The vehicle rolled across the highway, throwing all three occupants from the car.
One person died and two others were injured when a VW Polo crashed in the N2 South bound lane near the Umhlali off ramp around midnight last night.
IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst said while the cause of the accident was unknown, it was believed that the driver lost control of the car.
“It seems the Polo was traveling on the N2 North bound, when the vehicle rolled multiple times across the center median and came to a stop on the south bound lane. All three occupants were ejected from the wreckage,” said Herbst.
One of the passengers was in a critical condition and had to be intubated and placed on a ventilator by advanced life support paramedics.
The second passenger had moderate injuries.
The freeway was temporarily closed, but has since been reopened.
