Six musts for choosing the perfect wedding venue

Avoid hidden costs and sloppy service by doing your research thoroughly.

Getting married is a once in a lifetime occasion, which is why choosing the perfect venue for the wedding you have in mind is crucial and can make or break the day.

In light of the fact that Rain Farm Game Lodge is having a Bridal Fair on October 2, where the lucky winner of a wedding worth R30 000 will be announced, front office manager, Maruschka Horn gives us a checklist of things to look out for when choosing your special day’s venue:

1. Check if services are included in the venue hire

There can be a monster of hidden costs waiting to bite your budget if certain services are not included in the venue hire such as catering, basic setup of tables and chairs, cutlery and crockery.

Make sure you know what is included in the venue hire before you decide.

2. Does the venue include a chapel and reception area?

Having a venue with both a chapel and reception area means less organising, driving and stressing.

Your guests will also prefer staying in one place, instead of driving to the reception area after the ceremony and potentially getting lost.

3. Does the venue offer accommodation?

This is a big one!

There is nothing worse than your close friends and family having to leave your wedding early or not being able to celebrate with a glass of champagne (or three) because they have to drive to a different place to spend the night.

Having accommodation on the venue site means you can party the night away, knowing you only have a few steps to go before collapsing on a comfortable bed.

Also, having a honeymoon suite on the site will make for a romantic night and you don’t have to leave your guests early.

4. Will your guests be entertained?

Getting that perfect shot during your photoshoot requires time and patience.

Rushing back to your guests, because you are worried they are getting bored is no way to enjoy this special time as newlyweds.

Make sure the venue you choose provides entertainment for young and old, while you are away smooching in the sunset.

Check for decks with a view where your guests can relax, kiddies areas and entertainment such as a dart board, putt putt and so on.

While you are looking at venues, go for a walk around the venue to see what the scenery is like and if there are good spots for photos.

5. Look for that special something

Ask the front office manager or events manager if the venue offers anything special, such as a wedding on water or a game drive for the photoshoot.

Adding a unique element to your wedding will personalise it more and make it extra memorable.

6. If it is not love at first sight, leave

The venue needs to speak to you from the first moment you arrive.

Make sure you feel comfortable, welcomed and happy with the setting and the staff.

Do not settle for second best.

Take your time to find the perfect place.

Stand a chance to win your dream wedding for you, your friends and family worth R30,000 at Rain Farm Game Lodge, by entering here and attending the Bridal Fair on October 2.
