Ballito shop owner loses husband in Westville house robbery

Gary Mackay's wife and two children were awake upstairs when he was shot.

Awesym Skin and Body owner, Symone Mackay tragically lost her husband, Gary, when their Westville home was burgled this weekend.

Gary reportedly heard noises downstairs in the early hours of Saturday morning and when he went to investigate was confronted by three robbers, at least one of whom was armed.

He was allegedly shot in the abdomen during a struggle.

KZN provincial spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said SAPS are currently investigating and no arrests have been made.

While Symone is too traumatised to comment, friends of the family are raising funds online for her and her two children on Go Fund Me.

The Westville community have organised a memorial and awareness walk in honour of Gary Mackay on Wednesday at 5pm at Duncan Park.
