Welcome spring rain raises Hazelmere level slightly
Darnall area received 52.2mm rain on the weekend.
Rainfall figures averaged between 30mm and 70mm this weekend with Salt Rock receiving the highest rainfall of about 68 mm on Saturday and Darnall receiving 52.2mm from Friday, September 16 to Sunday, September 18 according to the SASRI weather web.
Gledhow area received 40.6mm and Maidstone 34.9mm for the same period.
All three areas received the most rain on Saturday September 17: Darnall 50.4mm, Gledhow 38mm and Maidstone 31.9mm.
Salt Rock resident William Howard reported to have measured about 68mm in his garden on Saturday and only 3 mm on Sunday.
Also an honorary officer at Omfolizi Hluhluwe game reserve Howard said the reserve received 40 mm over the weekend, which was “a huge relief for the drought stricken area”.
The Hazelmere Dam level is at 63.25 per cent today (Monday September 19) an increase from 62.4 per cent measured on Tuesday, September 13.
Although water restrictions have been lifted, conservation of water should remain part of our lives.
