Ballito Caltex owner killed in motorcycle crash
"Paramedics arrived and found the biker lying on the road with life-threatening injuries."
Late yesterday afternoon Ballito business owner Eric Maurel was killed in a gruesome collision on Ballito Drive while driving his Triumph motorcycle.
Chris Botha, media liason for Netcare 911, told The Courier that on Thursday afternoon Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a VW sedan.
“Paramedics arrived and found the biker lying on the road with life-threatening injuries. After the man was placed on a ventilator, paramedics immobilised him on a trauma board. He was then transported to a hospital in Umhlanga under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic for specialised care,” said Botha.
It appears that Maurel pulled out of the parking lot of the Caltex heading a short distance up Ballito Drive when he collided with a grey-gold VW exiting Seaward Estates.
Maurel passed away in hospital on Thursday evening.
By Friday morning condolences for the popular owner of the Caltex Garage were pouring in over the Dolphin Coast Neighbours group on Facebook, with many people commenting that they would miss the friendly chats that were part and parcel of filling up your tank at the station.
