Add to fair’s donation to Specialised Rescue Unit

Brendan Power of SRU said they are dependent on the community to support them and much of their equipment is sourced through sponsorship and donations.

Special Rescue Unit (SRU) Ballito received a donation of R5 500 from The Christmas Fair Fund to replace equipment lost in a recent rescue operation on Monday.

After reading about SRU’s trying rescue operation at Thompson’s Bay in The Courier last week, fund member Debbie Finch and the team from The Christmas Fair Fund decided to make a donation towards SRU to help these brave men and women.

Finch’s mother founded The Christmas Fair 63 years ago as an NPO made up of women volunteers supporting charities all along the North Coast.

“I was so moved by their bravery (SRU) that I immediately phoned Gaby Lyle (chairlady of the fund) to find out if we could do something for them,” said Finch.

This is The Christmas Fair Fund’s first donation to SRU but according to Lyle they are keen to add them to their beneficiary list.

Specialised Rescue Unit Ballito consists of volunteers who often put their lives on the line to save others. If you are interested in supporting SRU send an email to Brett Moran on info@sruballito.co.za.
