Prepare for road closures in Ballito on Sunday
The taxi rank is set to move at the end of April to the land opposite the Virgin Active Gym
The Business Park access road at the Virgin Active robots will be closed on Sunday due construction at the new Ballito taxi rank.
The taxi rank is set to move at the end of April to the land opposite the Virgin Active Gym, where the Shell Greenfield Service Station once stood. Construction on the site started on March 2.
Ward 21 Councillor Tommy du Toit said the contractors will be digging a trench and laying storm water pipes on Sunday.
“They chose Sunday because it is usually the least busy day of the week. The road will be closed early, but we cannot say until what time. People would have to use Douglas Crowe Drive behind the Lifestyle Centre to reach Virgin Active and McDonalds.”
Du Toit said the short term plan is to build a temporary facility using the front of the land facing the road.
“They will have a structure that will house the taxis while they complete the construction on the remaining land at the back.”
Possible future plans for the taxi rank could include making it an underground facility.
“Nothing is set in stone but it was mentioned at a meeting on Monday that KDM would like to have the taxi rank underground on the same site. In that way they could have shops at the top.”
