UPDATE: Landlord who wielded axe has a very different story to tell
A parking dispute spirals out of control in Tinley Manor and the video spreads like wildfire
The viral video of an elderly man threatening a woman with an axe after she refused to move her car may not be all that it seems.
The landlord, Pooran Makhan, came forward with a very different version of what provoked him to such extreme measures.
Makhan (75) owns a number of flats in Tinley Manor that he rents out.
“She provoked me beyond what is reasonable. Obviously I did not intend to hurt her, but when she started throwing beer bottles at me I decided that the whole situation had spiraled out of control and it was the only thing I could think of to make her stop and listen to sense.”
He claims that his tenant, Tasmyn van Niekerk, behaved abhorrently, but “when she started filming she stopped swearing and yelling at us”.
The landlord said a new tenant arrived on Tuesday and was paying for the undercover parking spot.
“Tasmyn is paying for an uncovered parking, as stipulated in her lease. She is aware of this but started using the covered parking while it was vacant.”
Makhan’s new tenant (who asked not to be named) claimed that when he was ready to leave on Wednesday morning he discovered his car had been parked in.
“My wife needed to get to her first day at her new job. I knocked politely on the window and asked her to move. She refused. She said I needed to learn a lesson. I begged and pleaded for 20 minutes but she would not budge.”
He then tried to call the police but on getting no answer decided to take his complaint to his landlord.
“When I called the uncle she went out of her mind crazy. She threw beer bottles at him. He is an old man who was only just out of hospital this week.”
However Van Niekerk maintains that her new neighbour had started banging on her bedroom window while shouting and swearing at around 6am.
“He was angry because I parked him in when I came home the night before.
“I said that I have been using this parking bay for three months and that it is right in front of my door and looks into my bedroom.
“I also pointed out that there are four other parking bays available,” said Tasmyn.
Makhan said he is currently evicting Van Niekerk.
“She wants 12 months free rent in exchange for dropping charges against me. That is extortion. I went to the police station myself to explain what happened and there is no case against me,” said the landlord.
Van Niekerk has since removed the video from her Facebook account.
