Locals journey to Bloemfontein prayer day

“To give you an idea of the size of the event, it was 1,4km from the stage to last big screen.”

People from across the Dolphin Coast loaded into buses and cars to join more than a million Christians from across the country on a farm outside Bloemfontein last weekend.

The occasion, Angus Buchan’s “It’s time” day of prayer on Saturday, was the largest day of prayer in the history of South Africa.

More than 150 members of Linc church in Salt Rock and more from Grace church Ballito and Destiny Life Gledhow were among the local churches that were represented in Bloemfontein.

Linc church campus pastor Mark Slevin said the prayer day was one of the highlights of his life.

“It was amazing. God showed up supernaturally,” he said.

Slevin said Buchan preached on Isaiah 66:8 which asks ‘Can a nation be born in a day?’ relating it to South Africa, saying through prayer he believes South Africa can be saved.

“His call was to mobilise the church to pray for our nation. This was not a political meeting.”

He said it was incredible to stand together with so many others, together repenting and crying out for our country.

“To give you an idea of the size of the event, it was 1,4km from the stage to last big screen.”

The seed for the gathering was planted when a WhatsApp video did the rounds with a desperate outcry for Buchan or any other spiritual leader in South Africa to intervene and arrange such an event.

Linc church members Kevin and Roy Primer, JD MacMillan, Amber Massey, Andre Dooma, Mike and Cindy Jahnig Angus Buchan’s “It’s time” day of prayer.

When Buchan replied by posting a video on social media, he received 1,8 million responses within hours.

“The day of prayer is intended for all South Africans of all genders, races and denominations who are concerned about the malice, hatred, violence, murder and corruption in the country,” said Buchan prior to the event.

The event was organised in a mere six weeks. Buchan, the author of Faith Like Potatoes, a book about his life that was also turned into a successful movie, said this alone was a miracle.

The preacher is widely known for his ‘Mighty Men’ conferences that draw thousands of men annually, events like this he said usually take at least a year to organise.
