Charity appeals for help after shock crash
The van of charity Vision 153 was involved in an accident on the N2 on Friday evening
This weekend saw many accidents on the roads, including one that has left a local charity organisation in dire straits.
On Friday evening a 15-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a taxi on the N2 Salt Rock off-ramp.
The van of charity Vision 153 was following and collided with the taxi, then their van was hit from behind by another vehicle.
Vision 153’s Nelia Hulin said they believed the van would be written off.
“The van was on the way to deliver food when the accident happened. Two of our members were lightly injured during the crash but it is the loss of the van that will have long-term consequences.”
Vision 153 provides food to the poorest of the poor, including many who are destitute or orphaned.
“For many of these people, we are their only source of food,” said Hulin.
“Without a van we cannot deliver or pick up food and the worry is that some of our major suppliers may have to start donating to other groups if we cannot collect from them.”
Vision 153 is appealing to the Dolphin Coast community for donations that will allow them to buy a new vehicle for their operations.
“Our aim is to raise R275 000 for the purchase of a Hyundai H100 that will allow us to continue helping those who need it most.”
