Mthembu tells departments to roll up their sleeves
He even made an example about what he said was a known problem, that in KwaDukuza there were police officers who took bribes.
Government employees must work harder because citizens have lost faith in them.
Member of provisional parliament Dr Ricardo Mthembu was speaking at a public meeting at KwaDukuza at the town hall last Friday, where provincial government departments did presentations outlining the issues they are facing and issues such as public drinking, violence in schools, drug abuse and crime.
“We need to have another meeting where we as government and the departments need to sit down and discuss how we are going to fix the issues in KwaDukuza. All the presentations today were about the challenges we got but no one came with solutions. I must say that I was a bit disappointed about that because we are not going to win if meetings like this are called and one person stands up to blame the other and the other one stand up to defend him or herself,” said Mthembu.
He even made an example about what he said was a known problem, that in KwaDukuza there were police officers who took bribes.
“But if we are not working together as departments in dealing with that issue, it will never be resolved.
“We need to sit down, come up with ideas and get evidence and present it to the station commander. If she fails to act, then we can blame her. It’s no use if we not working with her in solving the problem.
“We also have a big problem about the King Shaka Street and we need to put our heads together to fix it.”
It had been reported before that King Shaka Street is full of drug dealers and very little is being done about it.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss challenges that are faced by the community of KwaDukuza and get what the residents believe could be the solutions so that he can take it to parliament.
