Loadshedding may begin at short notice, Eskom warns

The possibility of oadshedding is high should the country not reduce electricity consumption during peak periods today (4pm to 9pm).

According to Eskom, due to severely cold weather, coupled with some loss of generation capacity, loadshedding may be implemented at short notice.

The state-owned utility provider said the national grid is currently severely constrained.

“Breakdowns currently total 12 984MW, while planned maintenance is 2 924MW of capacity.

“Any further significant loss of capacity would force us to implement loadshedding,” Eskom said.
