New regional ANC leadership to promote unity

Promoting unity and reclaiming the dignity of the African National Congress (ANC) is one of the key missions of the newly elected leadership of the General Gizenga Mpanza Region in iLembe.

The 3-day, 8th regional elective conference was held at Stanger High School last weekend after the conference was delayed for almost two years.

The General Gizenga Mpanza Region is constituted of 4 sub-regions: KwaDukuza, Mandeni, Ndwedwe and Maphumulo.

Vusi ‘Mavayi’ Mthethwa was elected chairperson, Bhekamaswazi Dlamini the deputy-chairperson, Sphesihle Zulu as secretary, Zibuyisile ‘Matozi’ Dlamini the deputy-secretary and Thulani Ntuli as treasurer.

ANC leaders present at the conference applauded the delegates for their good behaviour, even those from the losing faction.

Before closing the conference, Mthethwa said he would champion the programme to unite the ANC.

“I understand that on the way to this conference we stepped on each other’s toes, but now it is time to work for the ANC.

“We are here to lead every branch and every member of the ANC and I will visit all branches. We are here with one aim, to unite and build the ANC,” he said.

National executive committee member Zweli Mkhize, who arrived on Sunday, encouraged delegates to continue with their best behaviour.

“Congratulations to the elected leadership, but you must know that you are here to lead the ANC, not factions. I also applaud contesting members for accepting the results and for staying in the conference and taking part in all the processes. You must all work to unite the ANC and with your best behaviour today, you have already taken the first step,” said Mkhize.

The 340 delegates also voted for the 20 new members of the regional executive committee.

The additional members are Mazwi Gwamanda, Nonjabulo Mkhize, Mamazane Shezi-Buthelezi, Mduduzi Cele, Sibusiso Mhlongo, Gcinile Ntaka, Lindi Nhaca, Thandeka Ngidi-Mkhize, Nkosenhle Mngadi, Phumelele Dube, Promise Dube, Notha Maphumulo, Busisiwe Dube, Sipho Magwaza, Thobani Shandu, Phindile Sishi, Khanyo Manzi, Sibongile Ntuli, Mbuso Khuzwayo and Sibongile Mngomezulu.
