Toddler (3) drowns in river at Ndwedwe while father washes car
"His toy was seen floating downstream and after a search the boy was later found by a joint search and rescue team," said Mbele.
A three-year-old boy was found dead on a riverbank in Ndwedwe in the Emona area on Tuesday, believed to have drowned while his father was washing his car.
Provincial police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele, said the incident happened at a low-level bridge over the Mona River.
“His toy was seen floating downstream and after a search the boy was later found by a joint search and rescue team,” said Mbele.
She warned community members to be cautious when in or around water, especially the children.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson, Prem Balram, the father said the boy was standing next to the vehicle which was parked on the edge of the river.
He was busy washing his vehicle when he lost sight of his child.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man was swept away in the Umvoti River in Glendale and his body has not yet been found.
He was allegedly trying to cross the river with his friend on December 10.
His friend managed to swim across the river to safety.
