Lifeguards and beachgoers rescue sisters from drowning at uMdloti South Beach
The 11- and 14-year old sisters got into difficulty while swimming and began swallowing water before their struggle to keep head above water was noticed.
Two sisters narrowly escaped drowning at uMdloti’s South Beach at around 3pm today when nearby bathers and lifeguards rushed to their rescue.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and began treating the two for breathing difficulties.
“Once stabilised, the youngsters were taken to hospital for further care,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst.
