SPCA Dog Box doubles in size and items!

The SPCA Dog Box shop has doubled in size, ensuring a much better shopping experience for all.
The Dog Box, one of Ballito’s most beloved charity stores, moved to its new location at the Balvista Centre in October last year and has since expanded into an adjacent office.
Although the space was more modern compared to the previous premises in Jack Powell Road, there were issues with donation capacity given its limited space.
“Some items could not be accepted, which might now be possible given the increase in size,” said Dog Box manager, Carol Saunders.
Aside from the stock intake, she said Dog Box volunteers would have to closely monitor the number of people in store to meet Covid-19 protocols.
With the increased floor space, almost double the number of customers can enter, while volunteers now also have a dedicated check-out area.
“The expansion makes almost everything much easier for us relating to planning and operations. We are grateful that it has come to fruition after all the hard work to get the store ready so soon.”
When visiting the Dog Box, you will now find dedicated clothing, homeware, home media and literature sections where you are bound to find a hidden gem.
The store fulfills an important fundraising component for the Durban & Coast SPCA and every donation will benefit animals locally.
Low-cost, but good quality second-hand items are also crucial for families who may not be able to afford new items.
Despite the increase in size, the Dog Box still only accepts fiction books, while the rules on broken, dirty or unusable items remain the same.
Visit the store between 10am2pm on Monday to Friday, as well as from 9am to noon on Saturdays to see the new space for yourself.
Donations are accepted in-store, with home pick-ups available on Fridays.
