Gill netter finds bodies of Groutville mom and baby who were swept away in Umvoti River
Early yesterday morning the mother attempted to cross a river at Groutville when she and her baby were washed away.
A search and rescue operation had a heart-breaking outcome last night when the bodies of a mother and her two-year-old baby were found 3km downriver from Groutville.
A fishermen in the area spotted the bodies alongside the river.
The mother attempted to cross the strong-flowing Umvoti river at Groutville earlier that day when she and her baby were washed away.
Other community members also crossing the river who witnessed the incident, alerted the authorities.

A search and rescue operation was launched, but was called off last night.
Some time later the gill netter discovered the bodies of the mother and her baby still strapped to her back.
