SANTACO extends helping hand to MK Vets

The military veterans also asked the ANC leadership to help them with efforts to exhume and return the bodies of their commanders who died in exile.

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) branch has donated two cows, food parcels and school uniforms to beneficiaries of the local uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA).

This came after the association’s request for help when it met with “district champion”, MEC Peggy Nkonyeni earlier this month.

They had complained about a lack of medical treatment for those members who were ill and others living with disabilities.

The association also highlighted the issue of unemployment and the miserable living conditions many members and their dependents endured.

They demanded action in terms of proper housing facilities promised to them.

Nkonyeni promised to report back within a month.

Business and farming opportunities, as well as study bursaries were other topics discussed.

“The MEC has undertook to involve various stakeholders to find means of bettering the lives of MKMVA members,” said regional spokesperson, Thandeka Mkhize.

The military veterans also asked the African National Congress leadership to help them with efforts to exhume and return the bodies of their commanders who died in exile.
