Aldinville pupils score 36 new soccer balls
The school also received 10 new pairs of shoes from The North Coast Courier's Orphan Fund.
A shortage of soccer balls may seem insignificant, but for children it is a big deal.
The pupils of Aldinville Senior Primary School in Groutville in the absence of balls would improvise by rolling up plastic bags to enjoy a game of soccer.
Recently Traderoot Active and The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund arrived at the school with 36 new soccer balls.
Traderoot Active’s Amanda Howard said they were all about getting active and giving back.
“We decided to run a campaign whereby we sold the soccer balls to the community at our local events and Traderoot Active donated a portion towards our goal. We partnered with The Orphan Fund as they are well respected in the community and we knew they would be able to help us get the balls to those who needed them the most.”
The school had only 10 wornout balls between 1 500 pupils.
Principal Thulisile Myeza expressed her gratitude for the donation.
“Pupils who have never had the opportunity to play with a proper ball will now have that chance,” said Myeza.
The school also received 10 new pairs of shoes from The Orphan Fund.
“Words are not enough to express how thankful we are and with these shoes and balls, our school ground will burst into life, all thanks to The Orphan Fund,” said Myeza.
