Loadshedding started earlier this week when several units failed at Eskom, plunging the state-owned utility into a frenzy to return units to service.

After almost a week of loadshedding, Eskom downgraded rolling blackouts to stage 2 at 5am this morning.
Stage 2 loadshedding is expected to run until Monday morning at 5am at which point loadshedding is expected to be cancelled.
Loadshedding started on Monday when several units failed at Eskom, plunging the state-owned utility into a frenzy to return units to service.
Emergency generation reserves were however extensively used at the utility providers power stations and by Thursday these had improved sufficiently to allow for a reduction in the stage of loadshedding.
Generation units at Matla, Medupi, Kusile and Camden power stations were returned to service.
Breakdowns amount to almost 14 000MW and planned maintenance loss of capacity sits at more than 7 000MW.
