The area of highway is notoriously dangerous.

The stretch of the N2 between KwaDukuza and Mandeni is notoriously dangerous and has been the site of many fatal accidents.

In 2025 alone, at least 23 motorists and pedestrians were killed on the section of highway that runs for around 30km.

In March, three separate accidents claimed 11 lives, including a tragic bus crash in which nine churchgoers were killed.

In June, three women were killed following a collision with a tanker.

Between July and August, six pedestrians were hit and killedincluding two children – while another four motorists lost their lives.

This is far from an exhaustive list.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when driving in the high-accident area.
