Good sports all round

Crawford pupils shine at their annual sport awards evening.

Crawford College North Coast recently hosted their annual Sports Awards evening, which saw many talented young people recognised for their sporting efforts.

Two awards were presented to the college’s top teams, namely the chess team and the girls’ surfing team.

Principal Andre Loots said a special thank you was deserved to the school’s sponsors, SMD, as well as to parents who contributed to the success of their sporting codes.

“We would like to congratulate all our students who were recognised on the evening, and in particular Teal Hogg, who was awarded the Brad Winstanley trophy for achieving recognition in two or more aquatic sports throughout the year,” said Loots.

Hogg’s phenomenal achievements included representing KZN in long board and short board surfing, as well as lifesaving.

She finished third overall at this year’s Ballito Pro in the women’s category and she has recently returned from California after representing South Africa at the World Junior Championships.

The ‘Sportsmanship Male’ trophy was awarded to a young man who has lead from the front and who is always ready to help the sports department. Ross Scott has captained the school’s rugby, basketball, cricket, touch-rugby, soccer, water-polo and golf teams and is to be congratulated on his participation in all these sporting codes, said Loots.

The ‘Sportsmanship Female’ trophy, was awarded to Melissa Little. She has captained the water-polo, action netball, netball and softball teams.

Finally, the ‘Sports Person’ trophy was awarded to Teal Hogg, who was also recently nominated by the Mail and Guardian as one of the Top 100 South African Young Achievers.
