A delivery of hope from Rotary Ballito

The school principal said these two ladies have changed her life and in turn the lives of the pupils

In the deepest of sugar cane fields in Upper Tongaat, 270 pupils and one driven principal were eager to welcome two 4×4’s loaded with toys and a brighter future to the Mshwati Memorial School last week.

The Rotary Club of Ballito‘s Gail Stefano together with Partners for Possibility’s (PfP) life coach Terry Dearling have joined forces to help the determined principal, Bizie Magwaza give the pupils a better education.

PfP is an internationally recognised leadership development initiative which pairs up under-resourced school principals and business leaders to uplift the principal and in turn the school.

“Terry came to Rotary and told us about the PfP project she is involved in which is working with nine specially selected schools in KZN at the moment. I told the story on Facebook and asked for donations of any toys, books, posters and other household goods.

“The response was incredible! We all have so much stuff lying around that we do not use, which might be worthless to us, but for these kids even an old phone is exciting,” said Stefano, while she was watching one of the pupils playing with a tractor that used to belong to her son many years ago.

She said she was particularly grateful to 10 Uit 10 Skryfbehoeftes, who gave her educational posters to brighten up the classrooms.

The principal said these two ladies have changed her life and in turn the lives of the pupils.

“Terry is my best friend! She is my coach and helps uplift me to become a better leader for the pupils and my community. Gail is an absolute blessing. She has organised a lot of carpets for us, which makes such a difference, as the pupils can now sit on the carpet while they learn and play instead of the hard, cold concrete floor,” said Magwaza.

Besides running water and proper toilets, Magwaza said her dream for the school is to have a playground and some sports facilities for the pupils.

The barren school grounds are in need of some sport facilities and a playground where the pupils can exercise and play during breaks and after school.
