Painting with rhythm and grace

Ballito artist Guy Goes wowed the grade nine dancers when he walked into the studio with a large canvas

It was a morning full of surprises at Crawford College North Coast’s dance studio recently, involving a painting, a dance and a whole lot of happy people.

Ballito artist Guy Goes wowed the grade nine dancers when he walked into the studio with a large canvas which captured a moment from a recent dance they performed called Ready or Not.

The painting is based on a photo that was on The North Coast Courier front page on March 17 and immediately inspired Guy to turn it into an art piece.

“I loved the energy of the girls, their togetherness and their powerful pose. The light reflecting off the girls’ faces was stunning and a challenge at the same time,” said Goes, who particularly enjoys painting dancers for their defined bodies and beautiful movement.

The painting now hangs in the dance studio where the girls can enjoy it everyday.

Dance teacher and choreographer of Ready or Not, Victoria Page Andrews was thrilled to see the painting and said the dance was based on war.

“War affects everyone around the world, whether we are ready or not. This dance piece displays the strength, passion and power of a team of army troops through the medium of dance,” said Page Andrews.

After the girls received their surprise, they gave Goes a surprise in return and performed the piece for him.
