Cool runnings on first day of big school at Umhlali Prep

The 6 Grade 1 classes went through a short orientation process, before the youngsters were assigned the classes and teachers with whom they will spend their first year. 

Umhlali Prep welcomed a new batch of Grade 1s on Tuesday, with the children exuberant on their first day of ‘big school’.

Some of the new Grade 1 pupils at Umhlali Prep (back), Sukoluhle Zungu, Kyla Kraus and Thapelo Moshesh; (front) Olivia Siedle, Deejui Govender, Bailey Smith and Azriel Khan.

The 6 Grade 1 classes went through a short orientation process, before the youngsters were assigned the classes and teachers with whom they will spend their first year. 

There were mostly smiles abounding, although naturally a few tears were shed as well. Big school is a big change after all.
