Exciting find, but not novel

The notebook penned by Albert Luthuli is a wonderful contribution to South Africa’s historiography (Luthuli: why tribalism must go, Courier, October 11).
Well done to Pam Didcott for donating it to the Luthuli Museum. While the notebook is an exciting find, that which is reported to be written in it is not novel, pardon the pun.
The notebook reveals his “Christian-based” beliefs and his opposition to apartheid. The only full-biography of Luthuli to be written, Albert Luthuli: Bound by Faith (UKZN Press, 2010) elaborates on the same themes present in the notebook. Unfortunately, one can not purchase the book at the one place one would expect to find it: the Luthuli Museum.
