I took a contract via Telkom KwaDukuza and found that what was advertised was not what I received. I returned the phone the next day.
I then found that I was being repeatedly charged for the contract even though the phone had been  returned. I contacted client services about the problem and they advised that the problem would be rectified and I will be credited. This persisted and I went to the manager, who confirmed that the contract would be cancelled and I would be credited for the amounts that I have already paid.
I now find that Telkom has charged me an amount of R2547.38 as a forfeiture fee for this contract as well as a monthly instalment from the date of signing of the contract.
At the outset of signing this contract I received no documentation whatsoever confirming that I had this contract, neither did I receive a document when I returned the phone. There was no clause stating that I will be charged this amount.
On my querying this situation with Telkom Ballito again on September 8, I found that there is no record on file that the phone had been returned the very next day or ever returned, for that matter.
My landline is continually being cut off and I am being charged reconnection fees because of this, all because someone did not do his or her job properly.
I am aware of the credit regulations and I know my rights. It seems that Telkom does not know theirs.
