A short while ago I read an article in one of our local tabloids regarding progress made in providing adequate street lighting in Stanger Manor. The picture showed our Mayor, along with a few municipal officials, smiling broadly during the “switch on”.
The article also mentioned that our municipality was starting to resurface roads in the area. I was cautious in my excitement because posterity bears strong witness to the expansive promises made by politicians that have quickly turned to devastating disappointment.
My mild excitement has now turned into complete horror at the condition of our roads! The municipality has gaily gone about stripping the tar completely off a number of roads.
The roads in question (too numerous to mention) were bad enough in the absence of rain. They have now become a treacherous quagmire. Some sections of road have developed potholes that are deep enough to completely engulf an average motorcar tyre. The roads that enclose a very active business district (Daffodil Road, Geranium Street) have fallen prey to these blindly enthusiastic earth-movers. This is sheer lunacy!
Why, pray tell, was the resurfacing project not limited to one stretch of road at a time? Surely that would have limited the obvious damage and inconvenience that prevails presently?
Then again, I am an ordinary law abiding citizen without all the requisite skill in civil engineering who, for the life of me, cannot find the logic in this aberration.
