I write this letter with MUCH disappointment in the municipality and organisers of the Rage 2013 party.
Our premises are situated literally right below the grounds were the festival is taking place and from Thursday 28 Nov 2013, we have had to endure endless bouts of loud, wall shaking, deafening doof doof music. At first we put up with it, realising that with events like these, sound/speakers/equipment do need to be checked, but after almost three hours on Thursday and numerous times on Friday, Monday and today (Dec 3) ENOUGH is ENOUGH (especially considering the party was advertised for November 30 only!)
The music has been playing on and off since the 28th at random intervals throughout the day – yes, business hours! And not just distant sounds that one could tolerate, deafening bouts of wall-shaking doof doof.
Now, one would think that the event organisers (who I actually phoned numerous times with polite requests to please switch the music off but just got the phone put down in my ear) and municipality would realise that these tents have been erected smack bang in the heart of Ballito’s business park where hundreds of businesses are situated and where work hours are mostly 8am – 4pm, and would therefore ensure that no disruption came to these businesses during what is probably their busiest time of year as ours is but alas, it seems though that no consideration was given to us measly little businesses who provide the majority of Ballito’s economic climate throughout the year. They would rather ensure that a few hundred teenagers who are here for a few weeks at most are made to feel like Ballito is their playground and therefore anything goes.
Don’t get me wrong – the matric’s are entitled to their party – after all it only happens once a year, but come on! Have some consideration for the rest of us who are trying to make money for our families but can’t because our customers don’t want to make expensive luxury purchases when it sounds like there is a nightclub in our shop – that’s how loud the music is! I for one hope this festival is moved far far away from the business park next year otherwise us business owners will have to take this matter further…
