With reference to the Tongaat Hulett development in the Compensation area (Industry eyes Compensation, November 22), the link road (Ballito Drive) between the R102 and the N2 is already very dangerous, with many heavy vehicles using the road to switch between the highways.
There have been numerous accidents on that road in which victims have lost their lives or were seriously injured. Currently, there is no effective measure to reduce the speed or calm the traffic on that route.
The intersection at Lee Barnes Blvd and Umhlali Country Club is already a very dangerous intersection to cross in peak hours and after an enquiry was made to either construct a circle or put traffic lights at that intersection, it was said that it can’t be done.
With the new development in that area, it is going to attract far more traffic, which will drastically increase the risk of accidents, especially with the increase in heavy construction vehicles using that passage.
I would like to know how Tongaat Hulett is going to mitigate the increased risk with the excessive traffic using that link road to access their development, to make it safer for the general public to travel/walk on?
