The brutal murder of four year old Jasmin Lee Pretorius is a grim reminder of the state of lawlessness, in our rainbow nation.
We are on the edge of an abyss and the only way our democracy will survive is if we, fight fire with fire. Society has both the right to defend itself against the perpetrators of violent crime and the duty to reach out compassionately to the innocent victims of crimes and their loved ones.
A Chatsworth father was arrested for killing his wife and two teenage children. They were found bludgeoned to death in the bedroom of their home. Is this fair? Rape and murder is becoming a fashion in our country.
Our laws are too lenient. I understand that this is a democratic country and that the death penalty is abolished but what “sort of consolation prize” is life in prison? Nowadays, prison is like a resort holiday educational and recreation facility. Prisoners are living a better life than the poor and the rate-payers outside.
The only time we are going to see a “crime free South Africa” is once the death penalty is brought back. However this would be in total contradiction of our Constitution – which simply means that our constitution needs to be amended.
I also define corruption as a very serious crime. It brings more suffering and no service to mankind. I also challenge the government to give criminals life sentence without parole. I pray 2014 brings peace, hope, love and a crime-free South Africa to all.
“God Bless South Africa.”
