As a resident in Ballito I need to raise my concern regarding the lack of policing (both metro and SAPS) in Ballito during the festive period. With family leaving early due to lawlessness I spent two mornings reviewing our beaches as an ex police officer:
* The first concerning fact was that there was not once any visible beach patrols by either metro police or SAPS. The result was complete lawlessness.
* Fireworks openly sold by vendors on beaches, even to children.
* Public drinking evident with blatant disrespect for others.
* Public urination by unconcerned hooligans.
I am convinced that in all my years in Ballito I have never seen a town degrading so fast from a once-proud holiday destination and all because of a lack of interest from law enforcement. In fact pop into your local restaurants if you would like to see the “Men in Brown” where they sit for hours. While the “Men in Blue” are just never there.
Recently there was a massive roadblock in Ballito targeting the locals going to work. Where were you when drunkenness and chaos prevailed? While other municipalities claimed success on the war on fireworks and drunkenness, where were you?
I demand answers from both the SAPS and Metro on why they are not doing their jobs and slowly allowing our town to fall into chaos. If you can not do the job, move on and allow someone dedicated to take over.
We have had enough.
