The last time the poor state of the Hulett Street car park in KwaDukuza was challenged, the KDM wanted to privatise it as they said they couldn`t handle it.
Since then, I have learnt that they collected R32 000 per parking bay from businesses who can’t provide the necessary number of bays per square metre of building. Surely, those funds should be used to maintain the parking bays for us?
The public have had to suffer months of potholes which grew bigger and bigger especially in the critical area at the exit/entrance.
Doesn’t anybody from the KDM ever use this parking and care for their community?
I therefore especially want to commend Councillor Ebrahim Kolia for taking up the challenge and getting all the potholes filled within a week of it being brought to his attention.
He made the 250 and more people who use the parking lot so happy that they shouted their delight to the people sitting grinning under the taxi tree at the exit. A lovely sight!
Many of the service delivery challenges would be saved if only the KDM provided the infrastructure for maintenance.
The policies will have to change to enable our municipality to be able to complete their capital works, maintenance etc for each financial year by employing local, qualified South Africans.
