FEMSSISA (Foundation for English; Mathematics; Sciences and Innovation of South Africa) has made a big difference to the Educational landscape of South Africa.
Our organisation has been acknowledged by the department of national education.
We were instrumental in making inputs into the national senior certificate mathematics papers and the annual national assesment (ANA) Grade 9 papers.
FEMSSISA runs a number of programmes. Last year we took a team of 10 athletes, boys and girls under 14 and 18, as well a boys under 14 team to Lucknow in India in October.
There were 59 International as well local teams that participated in 4 disciplines namely soccer; athletics; karate and judo.
Our team came from 13 schools. Our soccer team lost in the semi finals. Our athletes on the other hand won 25 medals (9 gold; 14 silver and 2 bronze).
This achievement placed us in first position. Two of our students, Chantel van der Merwe from Umhlali Prep and Samantha from Durban Girls Secondary won three gold medals each. Keshav Moodley from Stanmore Secondary won one gold and three silver medals; Vedh Singh from Palmview secondary won one gold and three silver medals. Keanon Baker from Pinetown Boys won one gold; two silver and one bronze medals.
Our athletes have potential. All those who excelled have been dedicated and supported in terms of coaching.The other programme is our Innovation programme in mathematics, science and English.
The High school programme is from Grades eight to 11.
This programme will commence this week. Parents whose children have obtained 70% and over in mathematics are advised to enroll their children in this programme. This programme has been running for the past three years. Our top students are currently in Grade 11.
The top students in Grade 11 at 7 top schools are from our programme.
In 2011 we participated in the international mathematics olympiad for under 14 learners. These learners were on our programme. We took two teams of four each. Our teams won four individual bronze medals.
Three of our learners were African females. This was a first for South Africa.
Nokuthula from Mountview who was part of this programme is currently in grade 11 and is the top student at this school. Kival Rooplal from Tongaat Secondary won a bronze medal.
He is the top student at Tongaat Secondary. In 2012 he obtained 140 out of 140 in Grade 9 Mathematics ANA.
In 2012 we took a team of six science and six mathematics learners to Lucknow, India to participate in an under international mathematics and science olympiad. Fifty teams participated from many parts of the world.
Our learners won four bronze medals in science and two bronze medals in mathematics.

This year we will be participating in:-
1. International English event in August .
2. International mathematics olympiad in October.
3. International T20 schools cricket tournament.
All participants wlll be selected from our programmes.
