With reference to the letter from Ann Watson ‘Pledges to help have evaporated” (February 21), the Kombi is 15 years old and had only 90 000km on the odometer when the engine failed, due to her husband Mr Dudley Watson’s negligence, which he agreed to in a meeting held on January 28.
Mrs Watson herself drives a BMW, her husband a bakkie and a number of residents own vehicles in the Westbrook Retirement Village.
The previous committee left an amount of R34 000 in the bank and presently no amount is shown on their monthly statement. The Kombi should have been repaired using this money a long time ago instead of waiting on assistance from donors. The present committee earns plus/minus R3 000 a month and should stop begging.
